General Description
Perennial. Herbage succulent, glabrous to villous; sparingly brown-wooly on the caudex. Leaf blades oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 5–20 cm long. Inflorescence: scape 5–40 cm; spikes congested to somewhat sparse, 5–25 cm long, narrowly cylindric; bracts ca. 3 mm long. Flowers: sepals glabrous; corolla lobes 2–3 mm long. Capsule 2–5 mm long, covered by the persistent, erect corolla lobes (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Range Comments
Coastal WA south to S. America; collected once in Ravalli County, where it was probably introduced (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
