General Description
Usually biennial or short-lived, monocarpic perennial. Stems erect, 15–80 cm, simple or branched. Herbage puberulent. Leaf blades lanceolate to narrowly ovate, strongly serrate, spinescent, 25–60 mm long. Inflorescence crowded, 2–10 cm long; flowers partly hidden by ciliate, subulate-lobed bracts. Flowers: calyx sparsely hirsute, reticulate-veined, 10–14 mm long, teeth and tube ca. equal; corolla villous, purple, 2–3 mm longer than the calyx (Lesica et al. 2012.
