General Description
Stems ascending, 8–40 cm, villous. Leaf blades linear-oblanceolate to oblong, entire to spiny-serrate, 3–15 cm long, pubescent. Heads disciform to discoid, solitary or few; involucre narrowly campanulate to hemispheric, 12–20 mm high; phyllaries in 3 to 5 series, ovate to oblong, mucronate, sometimes spiny-serrate, puberulent, white below, green above. Rays 0 to 30, inconspicuous. Disk corollas 8–12 mm long. Achenes 3–5 mm long, glabrous (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
