Likely introduced into Montana, though native to other parts of the Pacific Northwest. Species is adventive and appears to favor areas with soil disturbance.
 
General Description
Similar to P. brevissimus. Leaves linear to oblanceolate, 10–35 mm long. Heads 6–8 mm high; receptacle scales, 2–4 mm long. Achenes cylindric, terete, 1–2 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Diagnostic Characteristics
Very difficult to distinguish from other members of the genus

BC south to CA, ID and MT. Collected in Lincoln County (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Habitat
Vernally moist areas, particularly roadsides and other disturbed habitats in western Montana.
