Diagnostic Characteristics
Subspecies vaseyana is usually less than 1 meter tall and has a flat crown. Its inflorescences arise mostly from the outer edges of the crown; the leaf lobes are of approximately equal length and less than 3 cm long, and the involucres are less than 4 mm long.
