General Description
Shrubs 50–100 cm high, capable of resprouting after fire. Stems tomentose to canescent. Herbage sparsely to densely tomentose. Leaves linear to linear-oblanceolate, 2–5 cm long. Inflorescence densely leafy-paniculate. Involucre campanulate, 3–4 mm high; phyllaries green to brown, tomentose; receptacle glabrous. Disk flowers perfect, 4 to 20, glabrous to glandular; corolla 2–3 mm long. Achenes resinous, 1–2 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Our plants are subspecies cana and viscidula (Osterh.) Beetle.
