In Montana known from one location in south-central region of the state.
General Description
Thallus fruticose. Thallus of erect hemispherical to spherical cushions of knobby balls. Branches terete (or nearly so), short, thick, blunt, and tipped with conspicuous pseudocyphellae. Branching is dichotomous and very compact

Range Comments
Eastern Montana, southern Idaho, and eastern Oregon (McCune and Geiser 1997). Also occurs in Nevada (data from Nevada Natural Heritage Program, May 2001).
