General Description
Rhizomatous, perennial herbs. Herbage glabrous, glandular-punctate. Stems erect, simple, 50–150 cm. Leaves 3–10 cm long, cauline, alternate, simple, linear-lanceolate, entire, sessile, minutely ciliate. Inflorescence of numerous heads in small glomerules in leafy-coymbiform arrays. Heads radiate; involucres 3–5 mm high, obconic to campanulate, glutinous; phyllaries lanceolate, often green-tipped, imbricate in 3 to 5 series, pale, 1-veined; receptacle flat, naked. Ray flowers few to several, female, yellow; ligules ca. 20, 1–2 mm long. Disk flowers ca. 9 to 15, perfect, yellow; corolla 3–5 mm long, tubes shorter than throats; style appendages lanceolate. Achenes subcylindric with 2 to 4 ribs, strigose, ca. 1 mm long; pappus of capillary bristles (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
