General Description
Stems 40–80 cm. Leaves: blades 3–5 mm wide; ligule 1–1.2 mm long. Inflorescences of 4 to 8 secund lateral spikes often appressed to the main rachis, each 3–4 cm long and with 20 to 30 spikelets. Spikelets 7–9 mm long, glumes awnless or awn-tipped. Lemmas distally smooth (Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
