General Description
Annual or biennial. Stems erect, sometimes branched at the base, 20–80 cm. Leaves mainly cauline, clasping, oblanceolate, 2–6 cm long. Glomerules terminal in a dense, hemispheric inflorescence, surpassing subtending leaves. Involucres 4–6 mm high; phyllaries dirty white with rounded, erose tips, tomentose at the base. Inner corollas 2–3 mm long. Achenes 0.5–1 mm long; pappus deciduous in clumps (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
